When re-connected to the network location, Sync Center will re-sync all the files, folders, and their changes. It can also manage sync conflicts on its own or send a notification when user interference is needed.
That is all. If it is that simple to turn off sync center in Windows Many people still use the "low tech" way to synchronize files in Windows XP.
They copy them onto a floppy for transfer. Others hook their laptop into the network and manually copy files over the network. There's nothing wrong with that, except that there's a much simpler way to synchronize files in Windows XP. If you want to keep files synchronized between your laptop and your office environment, you're much better off using something called "Offline Files" in Windows XP. Offline Files automatically deals with situations where files are changed both on your laptop and on the network location.
How would you manage synchronization when it's possible that neither copy is in it's original state? Think of files on a network that periodically goes down for maintenance or files on a desktop pc that you want to access while traveling with your notebook. Offline Files is designed to be an improvement over the Briefcase function from previous Windows versions. I read that I could right-click the folder that is being synchronized and tell it to stop making it available offline.
Problem is this folder doesn't exist any more on the XP machine, so there's nothing for me to right click. I also tried to re-create the mapped drive to the same folder to see if it would let me right click it and remove, but this did not work either - I could right click it, but there was no option to remove the "make available offline" option.

Thanks Shaon, Following those steps, the folder does still exist on the Offline Files list. So, good enough :- This is just a guess, but I imagine you have to delete all of the temporary offline files FIRST, then follow your steps to get this to work. Saturday, February 11, PM.
