Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. System Restore is a very useful feature of Windows Vista but it has one main drawback. After running for a few weeks, it can use a lot of your hard disk space.
With the default settings turned on, System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. I recently ran a disk defragmenter on my 32bit Vista. It had several folders marked System Volume Information. So it's actually the E: directory that is the issue. This same issue is on 2 other servers. When I go to Shadow copies on each server everything is showing disabled as shown in attachment.
I'm not sure where else to go to get this directory cleared, I am unable to see the directory using windows explorer. Thanks again for your help. It helps reduce the size of the System Volume Information folder immediately if any, even when you cannot see it from the File Explorer. It might cause unexpected problem if you shrink or delete the files within. The System Volume Information folder is used to store system data related to system recovery service, indexing, File History feature, etc.
In normal occasions, you should leave the folder as it is. Note: Microsoft is providing this information as a convenience to you. The sites are not controlled by Microsoft. Hi everyone, I faced the issue that I'm not able to access the files stored in "System Volume Information" - there are the incremental backups stored - on an external harddrive that is used by Windows Server Backup.
There was no problem to take the ownership of the SVI-Folder itself - but I am not able to do this for the files in that folder: There is definitely no right-problem, I've the right for take ownership for sure. Did anybody face that issue before?
